Vienna Boys Choir
Peter Handel-Mazzetti

The comprehensive repertoire of the Vienna Boy's Choir extends from Renaissance motets and madrigals, romantic choral works - both sacred and secular - to twentieth-century compositions.

The 100 boys who make up the choir frequently travel abroad. The boys, aged from 10 to 14, are divided into four separate performing choirs. The international reputation of the choir is based not only on their high standards but also on the musical and technical proficiency of its members and soloists.

The history of the choir goes back to 1498 and the Choir has had many distinguished Viennese musicians began their careers as members. Their repertoire is not limited to classical music: concerts include a wide variety of other music and they are especially noted for beautiful renditions of Austrian folk music.

Mass with the Vienna Boys Choir is held at the Hofmusikkapelle, Hofburg Palace and lasts approximately an hour. The choir stands behind the organ, but it will appear after Mass in front of the audience so everyone will be able to view them when performing a few extra chorals.

Gala concerts with the Vienna Boys Choir, the Vienna Chamber Orchestra and the Chorus Viennensis are held at the Brahms Hall at the Musikverein (Boesendorferstrasse 12, A-1010 center of Vienna). The concert lasts approximately an hour and 15 minutes.
